NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) – The stage is the one place Philip Martin-Nelson feels right at home. But it wasn’t always that way. Diagnosed with the most severe form of autism, Philip was unable to speak, make eye contact, or even allow someone to touch him for the first three years of his life.
With lots of therapy, he eventually began speaking, and when he did he told his mother “I want to dance.” She enrolled him in gymnastics and all sorts of sports.
Finally when Philip was 6, his mother enrolled him in his first ballet class. Suddenly, something clicked. Once ballet “unlocked” him, his teachers and classmates began to notice a difference, too.
